Creating Characteristic Fields in Product Safety and StewardshipProduct Safety and Stewardship
uses fields that were created as characteristics in the SAP Classification
(CA-CL) component. When you assign a class to a value assignment type in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools
under Specify Value Assignment Types
, the characteristics for the class are passed on to the value assignment type, meaning the characteristics are then available in the value assignment type as input fields (see Value Assignment Types and Characteristics Setup ). When you create additional characteristics and assign them to the class, you also assign these characteristics to the corresponding value assignment type.
You can also assign a phrase set to a characteristic that has the data type Character Format
with 30 characters. This means you can then assign values to the characteristic field using phrases from this phrase set.
This procedure describes how you create a characteristic, assign it to an existing class, and assign a phrase set to the characteristic.
In Customizing for Basic Data and Tools
you have assigned a class of class type 100 ( Value assignments
) to each value assignment type in which you want to enter specification data.
Choose and create the characteristic. If you want to assign phrases to the characteristic, you must select the data type Character Format on the Basic data
tab page and enter 30 as the number of characters. For more information, see Classification (CA-CL) .
Choose . Call the required class and assign the created characteristic to the class.
In Product Safety and Stewardship
, check whether the characteristic is displayed for the corresponding value assignment type:
In the SAP Basic Data and Tools
component, the appropriate value assignment type must be added to a property tree in the IMG activity Set Up Property Trees
. You can then call the value assignment type in the property tree and check whether the newly assigned characteristic is displayed (see Value Assignment ).
Note
In the classification system
you can define dependencies between characteristics and characteristic values using object dependencies . For example, you can specify that characteristic B is only ready for input if characteristic A was assigned values, or that the value D can only be selected in characteristic B if the characteristic A was assigned the value C. For notes on characteristics you want to use in the SAP component EH&S
and other information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Basic Data and Tools
under Set Up Characteristics
and under Object Dependencies in Classification .
You can assign phrase sets to characteristics that have the data type Character Format
with 30 characters. For this purpose, you must create phrases and phrase sets and then assign them to each other:
In the Basic Data and Tools menu , choose and create the required phrases (see Creating Phrases ).
In the Basic Data and Tools menu , choose and create the required phrase set (see Creating Phrase Sets ).
Assign the required phrases to the phrase set (see Phrase Assignment ).
Alternatively you can assign a phrase set to phrases (see Phrase Set Assignment ).
To update the view for the phrase set-to-attribute assignment for newly created characteristics, proceed as follows:
In the Basic Data and Tools menu , choose , set the Match up ValAss type and char.
indicator, and choose
with the quick info text Execute
(see also Master Data Matchup ).
Assign the phrase set to the characteristic as follows:
In the Basic Data and Tools menu , choose and navigate to the required characteristic. Assign the required phrase set (see Phrase Set-to-Attribute Assignment ).
Note
In Customizing for Basic Data and Tools
, the SAP enhancement C14X0001 is available for you to use under Develop Enhancement for Phrase Sets
. This allows you to dynamically determine and assign phrase sets for characteristics depending on the runtime environment and the current usage .
In order for the phrase set to be displayed when the characteristics to which you have assigned a phrase set are called, you must activate the phrase-enabled characteristics:
In the Basic Data and Tools menu , choose , set the Activate Phrasing of Characteristics
indicator, and choose
with the quick info text Execute
(see also Master Data Matchup ).
